Animal Kingdom injury takes him out of Dubai World Cup

March 18, USA~ 2012 Kentucky Derby winner, Animal Kingdom will not compete as planned in the $10 million Dubai World Cup, according to trainer, Graham Motion.

After a turf workout on Saturday, Animal Kingdom came up lame in the left hind, the same leg he injured in last year’s Belmont Stakes. Adjudged at the time to be a hairline fracture of the hock, he underwent surgery in late June.

Team Valor is disappointed that Animal Kingdom will not go to Dubai for the March 31 World Cup race at Meydan over 1 1/4 mile.  “This is a crushing blow for our partners, company and trainer,” said CEO Barry Irwin.

Motion said that Animal Kingdom will most likely have a bone scan to verify the extent of the injury.
