Arab girls to compete in HH Sheikha Fatima Cup in Abu Dhabi

October 25, 2012, Abu Dhabi  ~ Under the directives of HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, lady riders from many Arab countries will be represented in a special endurance competition in the name of HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Mother of the UAE on December 1. The race will be for 90 kilometres, and carry a total purse of Dhs80,000 ($21,000, £ 13, 586) in prize-money, said Lara Sawaya, director of the Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival and Head of International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing Authorities (IFAHR) Ladies Racing.

“Preparations are well in place to host the competition which will be open for wide participation from the UAE lady riders, plus three contenders each from Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman, two riders from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Morocco and one from Algeria, Syria, Tunisia, Sudan and Jordan,” she confirmed.  “A special press conference will be held on November 29, at the Mangroves Hotel in Abu Dhabi and will be attended by all participants as well as 40 local and international media institutions and agencies.”

“And the race itself, will be accompanied by other events to coincide with the celebrations of the 41st National Day of the UAE,” she continued.

Sawaya also promised that a lot of surprises will be provided for the public who watches the race from the venue.
