Arabian Racing Festival goes to Polish Parliament

December 10, 2012, Warsaw, Poland Press Release~ Under the directives of HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Lara Sawaya, director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Purebred Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival and head of the IFAHR Ladies Racing highlighted the successful promotional and marketing experience of the festival before the Polish Parliament Members in Warsaw on Monday.

The special session was attended by the UAE ambassador to Poland Asim Mirza and a number of top Polish government officials headed by the Deputy Minister of Sports and Tourism, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Deputy Minister of Economy, head of the organising company of horse racing in Poland and a number of racing officials within Europe and elsewhere.

According to Sawaya, the success of the promotional and marketing campaign of the festival is attributed to the directives, support and patron of HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan as well as to the support and patron of HH Sheikh Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairperson of the General Women’s Union, Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood ‘Mother of the UAE’, which had its positive effect in increasing the numbers of the events from a humble four races in the first edition of the festival in 2009 to 64 races in 2013. The races were mainly run under the name of Sheikh Zayed Cup including two rounds in France plus one each in Holland and Germany.

Right now, the festival hosts 64 races in its fifth edition and they set to start again in January 2013. The events include 12 races for Sheikh Zayed Cup, 12 races for HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship IFAHR, 40 rounds of the Wathba Stud Cup for Private Owners Only, 25 will be held in the USA and Europe and 15 within the UAE’s local season. The prize-money for the Wathba Stud Cup has been increased from Euro2000 to Euro 5000 in Europe, from $2000 to $5000 in the USA, and from Dh40.000 to Dh50.000 in UAE, to attract more attention to the Arabian horse breeding and training,” she said.

Thereafter, Sawaya urged the Polish Parliament Members to support lady jockeys since there are only two lady riders in Poland which doesn’t sound well despite the wide-spread of Arabian horse races.

“HH Sheikha Fatima has also introduced the HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Darley Award to work side by side in supporting women’s Arabian horse racing sport with the HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship IFAHR,” she said.

Meanwhile, it was announced that the sixth edition of the World Arabian Horse Conference would be held in Poland.

UAE ambassador to Poland, Asim Mirza concluded, “The award of HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the UAE, the IOC President’s Trophy for outstanding merit in the development of sports underlines her status as a leading personality worldwide in encouraging women to make their presence felt in all arenas, and the equine sport is the best example.”

“The successful campaign of HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival is a pride for everyone. “We are delighted to have the festival and the conference in Poland where the greatest numbers of Arabian horses are bred and trained,” he concluded.
