Barak wins third race in Abu Dhabi Wathba Stud Farm Cup series

November 20, 2011, Abu Dhabi~ The Julio Peromingo-trained Barak under jockey Patrick Cosgrave won the third race of the 2011-12 Wathba Stud Farm Cup series being organized as part of the His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival.

In Sunday’s race meeting at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, Cosgrave seized the gap as the field entered the home stretch and then went on to score a smart win on Barak to give Peromingo his first win of the season. Barak is owned by Khalid Khalifa Al Naboodah who has had a lot of success in the Wathba Stud Farm Cup, a series of races open for Private Owners.   AF Tharb under James Doyle and AF Shaden under Henry Bentley finished second and third behind Barak.

After winning the 1600-metre race which carried a total prize fund of DH 40,000,  Cosgrave said: “I was always going very well and it was a case of waiting for the gap to open. Once it did I was always confident of landing the spoils.”

Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Director of Communications Department at ADACH said, “Once again a full field of 16 horses took part in the race which reflects how popular the Wathba Stud Farm Cup race series is among the Private Owners. These races are enjoying a huge popularity among the Purebred Arabian race horse owners from the small and private stables.” 

Lara Sawaya, Director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival, announced during the race meeting that Oman will also be one of the venues to stage the prestigious Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies IFAHR Cup. “We will also be staging a few other events which will be announced at a press conference soon and all this will be to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the UAE’s National Day,” she added.
