French Beat leads to win at Wathba Stud Farm Cup California race

July 30, Santa Rosa, California~ French Beat(Virgule Al Maury x Timeless Song) under jockey Chris Russell went under the wire for the win ahead of Burning Speed MKP in the Wathba Stud Farm Cup race Saturday at the Sonoma Fair track at  Santa Rosa.

Breaking sharp French Beat led from the gate to the wire by as much as 3 lengths at the half.  Burning Speed MKP kept up a steady challenge moving up from 4th position and just barely missed the win with A Sargent General in hot pursuit rounding out the top 3 just 1 3/4 lengths off the winner.

French Beat is owned by Jim Schleimer and trained by Sandy Torok who accepted the trophy of the Wathba Stud Farm Cup .  “I have been confident in him all along,” said Torok. ” He’s hard to ride because he gets lazy.  I told Chris he’d have to earn it this time and he did.”

Chris Russell was happy with his ride.”He’s much more talented than he shows. He hasn’t come into his own yet.  He was second in the Pleasanton race.  I love riding Arabs.”
