HH Sheikha Fatma Bint Mubarak Ladies IFAHR Cup unveiled in Paris

 March 2, Paris~The International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing (IFAHR) has announced a partnership with the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival to stage a series of races for lady amateur jockeys and has also appointed Ms Lara Sawaya as Director of Ladies racing.

After an IFAHR meeting in Paris which was attended by 38 delegates, IFAHR placed on record its appreciation of the efforts by the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival to Arabian racing.

IFAHR and the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival have agreed that the HH Sheikha Fatma Bint Mubarak Ladies IFAHR Cup will now be held under the umbrella of IFAHR. IFAHR also appointed Ms Lara Sawaya, the Director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival as the Director of Ladies Racing in IFAHR.

The HH Sheikha Fatma Bint Mubarak Ladies IFAHR Cup will stage nine races in nine different countries in 2012 with support from the UAE General Women’s Union which is headed by Her Highness Sheikha Fatma Bint Mubarak.

The 2012 calendar of the HH Sheikha Fatma Bint Mubarak Ladies IFAHR Cup is as follows:

Victoria, Australia on Jan. 27, 2012; Sam Houston (9-3-12), Casablanca, Morocco (4-5-12), Newbury, UK (19-5-12)  Hoppergarten, Berlin (10-6-12), Taby, Stockholm (10-7-12), Warsaw, Poland (26-8-12), Craon, France (3-9-12) and Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club (in November, 2012).

Accepting the appointment by IFAHR, Lara Sawaya thanked Her Highness Sheikha Fatma Bint Mubarak and HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs for their continuous support for lady jockeys.

“Before next year’s race series, we will be staging the HH Sheikha Fatma Bint Mubarak Ladies IFAHR Cup race in Abu Dhabi on October 30 this year. We invite amateur jockeys around the world to take part in the event. We have witnessed lady jockeys from the UAE and other Arab countries take part in the first-ever Sheikha Fatma Bint Mubarak race held in The Netherlands earlier this year,” Sawaya said.

“We thank Her Highness Sheikha Fatma Bint Mubarak for her suppo0rt to all women activities and particularly in equestrian events,” Sawaya added.
