February 21, 2013, Dubai ~ Meydan opened the evening with the Bani Yas Arabian Race over 1400m to a field of 12 talented Arabian runners, Thakif being withdrawn. The only Purebred Arabian race on the card, the Group 2 on the all-weather was taken by Rakha for owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, trainer Majed Al Jahouri and jockey Ahmed Ajtebi. The victory by Rakha, once again puts a fine point on the breeding program that brought Rakha’s sire, Mahabb, into the limelight. Winning time: 1:33:11
Winning trainer, Al Jahouri said: “It has been a great season thus far and hopefully it can continue to Super Saturday and the Kahayla Classic.”
It was the Burning Sand mare, TM Super Bird with Ted Durcan in the saddle that brought the chase home when Rakha passed her in the final strides, leaving 2nd place for owner Mohd Faisal Hammad. The Texas – bred mare fought hard down the stretch conceding the win in the final strides in her debut at Meydan.
The Eric Lemartinel trained Bigg N Rich under Gerald Avranche brought in third. The entire 7 races were sponsored by the Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group.
