May 8 Warsaw, Poland ~ The bay filly Piawella (Akbars x Pianistka by Asian) took first prize by five lengths at the Wathba Stud Farm Cup on the course at Sluzewiec on Sunday, May 8. Owners and breeders, Mr. & Mrs. Marianna and Stanislaw Wisniewski and Mr. Marcin Gawryszewski, trainer, Mrs. Dorota Kałuba, and jockey Siergiej Wasiutow, were awarded their trophy and prize by His Excellency Mr Asim Mirza Al-Rah Mah, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Poland. Otavia, having led from the start, finished second, third over the line was Harfistka. The favorite for the race, Cejlonka, finished fourth. The 1,800 m race was open for three-year old Purebred Arabian horses. Seven horses entered the starting gate on this race: Harfistka, Boliwijka, Gotta, Piawella, Cejlonka, Modelina and Otava, all locally-bred and owned horses that gave small and private owners a chance to take part in the Wathba Stud Farm Cup series.
Before the race, Abdulla Al Qubaisi, Director of Communications for Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) said, “We have already seen the success of the Sheikh Zayed Cup races held in Poland and now the Wathba Stud Farm Cup will be a perfect complement to that. Poland has a strong base of Arabian horses.”
During a short interview for Polish TV after the race, Lara Sawaya, Director of HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival, underlined the significance of the Wathba Stud Farm series for the promotion and growth of Arabian racing in Poland. The next race in the series is planned for Sunday May 29th at Partynice – the oldest racecourse in Poland at Wroclaw. The race will be for 3 year- old Pure Bred Arabian horses over 2000 meters.
