Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Juma Al Maktoum wins Al Wathba Challenge Endurance

   November 24, 2012, Abu Dhabi ~ Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Juma Al Maktoum, riding nine-year-old Tonki Dee Boo Kokoda, won the Al Wathba Challenge CEI *** at the Emirates International Endurance Village in Al Wathba, Abu Dhabi, on Saturday November 24 over a field of 178 starters.

The ride was attended by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and HH Sheikh Tahnoun Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai also participated in the ride.

The CEI** 120 kms was run in five phases of 33kms, 27 kms, 24 kms, 20 kms and 16 kms.

Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum completed the ride with a time of four hours, 25 minutes and three seconds with an average speed of 27.165 kmph. Saeed Sultan Shames Al Maamari, who was riding Khersiko Du Courtisot finished a close second clocking 4.25.04 with an average speed of 27.163 kmph. Both the horses belonged to MRM Stables. The horses were trained by Ismail Mohammed Abdul Rehman.

“It was a tough ride and my strategy was to make a steady progress to win the ride,” said Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum. He finished the first stage in the 49th place and climbed up 40 places to ninth before reaching third. He went down to fourth place in the- penultimate stage and then rallied to win the race.

Lady rider Fatima Jassem Saeed Al Marri, finished third on Ohio from Dubai Endurance Stables having clocked 4:25:08.

Adnan Sultan Al Nuaimi, director general of Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, Abdullah Al Qubaisi director of Communications, Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, Lara Sawaya, director of the HH Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival and Head of IFAHR Ladies Racing, Ali Al Mulla, chairman of Areej Al Amerat, Saif Al Awani, managing director of Al Awani, and Nehme Darwiche, manager of Eastern Mangroves Hotel gave away the trophies cash awards.

The race was sponsored by HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Areej Al Amerat, Eastern Mangroves Hotel, Al Awani General Enterprises Establishment, Samawi Neon Designing and Art Production.
