The Curragh, Ireland – Review by Paul Simmons ~ A select field went to post for the 2011 renewal of this valuable race. The field went off at a crawl in the early stages and full credit should be given to Simon Walker for seizing the initiative on Theoretically at the half way stage. Walker picked up the pace to set a good working gallop and as they entered the final two furlongs Evens favourite Kasih, partnered by Johnny Murtagh, was chasing hard in behind with the German raider Terach El Samawi. However, in the end, the race went to the talented American Derby winner Theoretically (Doran x First Ladie), given a brilliant ride by Simon Walker he powered home for a decent victory for Athbah Stud and trainer Bill Smith. Back in second was Kasih (Amer x Pesennaia) who had every chance in the final furlong and rallied hard but couldn’t get past the winner. Terach El Samawi (Tidjani x Octavia El Samawi) ran a superb race in third; he was against the rail and fought hard to take second from Kasih but couldn’t quite get there. UK runner Hidalgo (Samern x Pella De La Coste) was tapped for toe in the closing stages but stayed on for fourth ahead of Zayin Barakaldo (Khoutoubia x Barryh) who missed the break and never really got involved in the race.
