UAE ~Named one of the top Purebred Arabian horse trainers in Abu Dhabi for the 2010 racing season, Eric Lemartinel has saddled 18 winners to date in 2011 and is looking forward to the Kahayla Classic on March 26.
A former steeplechase jockey and thoroughbred trainer in Normandy, Lemartinel became the trainer in residence for HH Sheikh Mansoor five years ago. Every morning he puts his 30 horses through an hour of rigorous training. “Yes, sometimes I miss thoroughbreds for their speed, but I love Arabian horses for their intelligence,” he said. “They’re too smart to always give 100 percent, and they’re more of a challenge to train, which I enjoy.”
Lemartinel trained the Kahayla Classic winner, Mizzna by Akbare x Unchained Melody owned by Sh Monsoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2008. In the 2011 Arabian race for the March 26 World Cup at Meydan race track in Dubai, Lemartinel will saddle two horses, Nieshan ( Akbar ex Jade des Pins) 2006, and Lotois (Akbar ex Allia Lotoise 2005, both owned by Ali Haddad.
Lemartinel likes the challenge provided by the World Calendar of races backed by the Sheikh Mansoor Global Arabian Racing Festival. “ I also look forward to the next Racing Congress in June in the Netherlands, and hope they will invite more professionals to share ideas and opinions on improvements for breeding and racing,” he continued.
