May 29 Wroclaw, Poland ~ Winder and Eklis completed a 1-2 for trainer Jan Pochwatka in the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival’s Wathba Stud Farm Cup race held at the Partynice race course in Wroclaw, Poland on Sunday.
Owned by Ryszard Szpar, the promising and handsome bay colt with lady-jockey Beata Zawadzka in the saddle won quite impressively by 3 ¾ lengths while another Pochwatka –trained chestnut Eklis finished second. Fedrus from Michal Borkowski’s yard finished third in the 8-horse field while another filly Wenida was fourth.
Trainer Robert Swiatek’s Zloty Ksiaze, which was the favourite in the 2,000-metre race for 3-year-old Arabian horses, showed some poor temperament and ended up last.
“The Wathba Stud Farm Cup Series gives fantastic support to small breeders and owners of Arabian horses in Poland, because winners of both Wathba Stud Farm Cup races fulfilled the aim of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival and this splendid event and made the dreams of Polish small breeders and owners come true,” said an official of the Polish Jockey Club.
The Polish Jockey Club as well as the Organisers in Warsaw and Wroclaw racecourse also expressed their big “thank you” for the great opportunity to be the part of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival.
Abdulla Al Qubaisi, Director of Communications of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) said, “We are glad that the Polish Jockey Club has met with much success in encouraging small owners at the grass-roots level.”
Lara Sawaya, Director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival said, “Poland has a rich culture of Arabian horses and we are happy to stage the Wathba Stud Farm Cup race in Wroclaw which is one of Poland’s centre for Arabian horses.”
Stephen Bowey of Invest AD and Mirna Youness of La Sirene also praised the success of the Wroclaw race.
