Qatar races into April

The 51st race meeting of the season at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club on April 11 was witness to the trainer-jockey combination of Jassim Al Ghazali and Gerald Avranche winning four of the nine races.

Al Ghazali’s good day began in the second race when Safqah won the Pure Arabian Conditions race (4-year-old Fillies only) in convincing fashion. The 1,850-metre race was completed in two minutes and 04.59 seconds. This was Safqah’s fourth win in six runs. Safqah was followed in by Vit’Al Fauguey, then Candahar for third.

Khalfa won the Local Bred Pure Arabian Handicap race for horses rated 40 and below. The Amer filly out of Baheejah won by two lengths over 1,400 metres in a time of one minute and 34.28 seconds. Baroud Al Zaeem was second by two lengths, then Manjam for third.

Al Ghazali and Avranche completed their hat-trick when Al Mustanfir (Hafid Du Bac x Al Hamdanieh) won the Local Bred Pure Arabian Handicap race for horses rated 40 to 70. This was Al Mustanfir’s first win of the 2013 season.

Umm Qarn’s Fouladh (Amer x Jaljalah). after winning the Gulf Cup in his last run, returned to add one more victory to his excellent form in the Local Bred Pure Arabian Stakes over 1400m. Frenchman David Bouland rode the winner in the time of 1:31:93. He was followed into second by Al Mizan, then Iftekhar ASF for third.

In the opening race of the evening – Pure Arabian 3 Year Old Plate, the Nasser Al Kaabi trained AJS Qahir (Martin Al Maury x Af A’ajabatani) won by three lengths ahead of Majd Al Uraiq and Muhalhal Al Uraiq.

Trainer Jassim Al Ghazali won three races including the feature event during the 50th race meeting at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club on April 10. It was a good day for jockey Yanis Aouabed, winning the Al Fuweirat Cup 1200m Pure Arabian Stakes on the Al Ghazali trained Jelmud (Amer x Dermech). Jelmud easily gained control about half way around and quickly gained a five length lead which Harran could not overcome. Jelmud clinched the victory by the same five lengths in a time of one minute and 18.88 seconds. Saint De Faust followed in third.

Al Ghazali’s other two wins for the day came through Al Moaheeb in the  Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate and Al Wajba. Gerald Avranche piloted Al Moaheeb home while Aouabed took Al Wajba took top honours in the Thoroughbred Stakes for Fillies and Mares.

Mohammed Al Ramzani nurtured Rich Mistress (TH Richie x Ammante) to win the Pure Arabian Handicap race for horses rated 40 and below, an easy victory in the hands of jockey Marco Monteriso. Ugo Des Vialettes was second by almost two lengths, followed in by Jamra.
