Celebrations begin for the 22nd edition of Qatar International Equestrian Festival (QIEF).

QEF_LOGO21 February 2013, Doha ~ Qatar celebrates the Arabian Horse with the biggest racing week in Qatar’s calendar.

The 22ndedition of Qatar International Equestrian Festival (QIEF) kicks off this week, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, from 21 to 28 February 2013.  A press conference was held earlier in the week to welcome the festival by Honored guests, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed Bin Faleh Al Thani, REC Chairman, Sami Al Boenain, REC General Manager, Mohammed Salem Al Abdullah, REC Head of Public Relations, and Saad Mubarak Al Hajri, REC Head of Media as well as the REC Heads of Sections and the various Arabic and English media.

QIEF will open on February 21 and will conclude with the February 28 high-quality, premier contested races in Doha, HH The Emir’s Trophies and Sword.

The Qatar 2022 Invitational Cup, GCC Gulf Cup and Al Rayyan Cup will be held on February 26 while the Group I Qatar International Trophy for Pure Arabians and Group II Qatar International Cup for Thorougbreds will be held on February 27.

FEGENTRI Female and Gentleman Riders races, which have been part of QIEF over the past few years, will again be part of the Festival. The Apprentice Jockeys Championship joins the festival this year as  the best apprentice jockeys from the Asian Racing Federation will take part in the three day race meeting. Riders from Australia, South Korea, Philippines, Oman, Bahrain, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Mauritius will compete on REC racecourse. The talented Felah Bughaniam will represent Qatar in the Apprentice Jockeys Championship. Bughanaim has the experience of having ridden in USA, UK and France and will carry Qatar’s hopes.

QIEF will start off with the Qatar International Arabian Horse Show on February 21 at 9 am, while the Opening Ceremony has been scheduled for 3.30 pm . Apart from the Arabian Horse Show which will conclude on February 23, there will be a two-day Straight Egyptian Horse Show on February 24 and 25.

Added to the excitement of racing, there are prizes for the Best Dressed Lady and Hat Contest, which REC will organize on February 28 during HH The Emir Trophies and Sword Day. The two first winners will receive a steel gold and diamond PrimaLuna Longines watch.

In addition to the racing action, spectators have an opportunity to win fabulous prizes on offer including a raffle draw for cars.
