Delaware Park cancels Monday live racing card due to Hurricane Sandy

Wilmington, Del. , October 28, 2012 — Delaware Park has cancelled the live racing card scheduled for Monday, October 29, due to the forecast of Hurricane Sandy affecting the Mid-Atlantic region.

Hurricane Sandy is churning off the East Coast and is expected to join up with two other weather systems to create a huge and problematic storm affecting 60 million people on the East Coast of the USA. The inland will not be spared and wave heights in Lake Michigan could reach 28 feet Monday night and 31 feet by Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm, which is expected to have 85-mile-per-hour winds and the threat of an 10-foot sea surge, has everyone scrambling for protection and cover. Ordinary commerce has been stopped, workers have been sent home, and in New York City, the U.S. securities industry canceled all equity trading today and will shut bond markets early, which may extend through tomorrow.
