5 August 2018, UAE ~ The mentorship program of the International Federation of Horse Racing Academies, IFHRA, is gaining momentum with several equestrian-related individuals making use of the initiative to hone their skills.

One such beneficiary is Hussein Abdali, who recently finished his Mentorship Program at Kildangan Stud Farm, Ireland. He is now currently working as a Registration Officer (Studbook), at the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Still excited by the three-week training, Abdali said: “This program benefited me a lot and helped me gain more experience in the racing field. It also gave me an opportunity to meet big names in theracing world and get in contact with them which is a huge benefit for my future career. I returned home with a lot of ideas which can be implemented at my home racing club.”

He added: “It was a great honor to visit Kildangan Stud Farm and meet true horsemen like Joe Osborne and Jimmy Hyland, Director of Kildangan Stud Farm, both who gave me insight into learning and experiencing the breeding operation. I learned a good deal about stallion management and marketing, pedigree analysis and bredding, stud farm management and foal routine inspection and evaluation.”

With Jimmy Hyland, Abdali visited all of the nine stud farms in Ireland. “It was also an honor to meet nutritionist Dr. Steph Jackson from the USA and spend three days with him to learn more about horse nutrition and feeding.”

Also fascinating was attending the Northern Ireland Derby at Down Royal and receiving the Derby Cup on behalf of the Godolphin team. “I went to the Curragh race course alongside with Paul Murtagh, Head of Race Day Operation, and experienced every position and role during the race.”

Abdali also managed a visit to Ballydoyle which he found to be “… a fascinating and different operation than other operations I have seen or heard about.”

Weatherby was the next stop where Abdali experienced their management system of registration. “Weatherby is testing a digital passport which will be launched in the future which might help Bahrain within our studbook authority,” he said.

Overall it was a great experience,” he concluded. “Thanks to His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister, IFHRA, and Ms Lara Sawaya, Chairperson of the International Federation of Horse Racing Academies (IFHRA) and Executive Director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival and Chairperson of Ladies & Apprentice Racing Committees in the International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing Authorities (IFAHR), for this wonderful opportunity.”
