February 24, 2013, Abu Dhabi ~ Another success for owner Al Nabooda, trainer Lemartinel and jockey Avranche
AF Qamoos, winner of the last race in the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival’s Wathba Stud Farm Cup series last season, won again in yesterday’s 12th race of this season at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club race course.
While it was yet another win for the French pair of trainer Eric Lemartinel and jockey Gerald Avranche and owner Khalid Khalifa Al Nabooda, it was only the second win since last season’s success in the same race series.
The 7-year-old chestnut, that had two second-placed runs since that win over a mile, did well to win Sunday’s contest over 11 furlongs with a full field of 16 runners in the fray.
Taking the lead with about 300 metres to go AF Qamoos (Madour x Voici Kossack (NL) by Bengali D’Albret) staved off the late challenge from Unique De La Garde under Royston Ffrench to win by a short head. Joyous Dream under James Doyle finished third.
Laamaa (Munjiz x El Afia by Dynamite III (TN) continued the remarkable season enjoyed by his owner and breeder Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his main trainer Majed Al Jahouri by winning the Group 3 middle round of the Arabian Triple Crown, the 2200m feature race at Abu Dhabi on Sunday evening. Harry Bentley was in the saddle on the winner and said: “Stamina was the issue for most of us and he has stayed well over this longer trip than he has been racing in France. The runner-up and third are both nice types and highly regarded so it has to be a good performance and a highly promising introduction to the UAE. He should be able to build on this.”
Shayel Aldhabi was second and stablemate, Najm Alemarat third for Eric Oertel. Winning time: 02:27:87
Trainer, Al Jahouri, enjoyed the earlier victory of Jarnin (Akbar (FR) x Julie de Syrah by Djourman) in the 2200m conditions race with Kieren Falllon aboard the winner.
