Mizzna son, Merzal, wins at La Teste

Press Release July 28, 2012, France ~  Merzal and Shagra de Jos continued the impressive performances of the horses owned by HH  Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi.

They did everything right to land the 1,900m Prix Akbar and the 1,900m Prix Mangalied D Albert (PA) respectively at the La Teste Racecourse, France on Friday.

Merzal, the three-year-old son of the Bibi De Carrere from the Arabian champion mare Mizzna, followed in the footsteps of his full brother Rabah De Carrere to win the Euros 14,000 prize.

Ridden by Charles Nohra for trainer Jean Pierre Totain, made all the running to record his first win in three starts from a field of 13. Laamma finished second.

Shagra de Jos came home an impressive winner  to complete the double for the colours of HH  Sheikh Mansoor.

The three-year-old filly was always going well and won by three-quarter length and in a time of 2:15:91.

According to Sultan Al Marzouqi, manager of   Wathba Stud Farm, the successes of Merzal and Shagra is further evidence of the successful breeding and racing operations of HH  Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

“Once again, this is a great success to the of the embryo transfer which has been carried out under the directives and supervision of HH Sheikh Mansoor  Bin Zayed  Al Nahayn.,” he said.

“Merzal is full a brother of Rabah De Carrere who made his presence felt on debut last weekend and the first embryo transfer production, a move which is a real revolution in the embryonic transfer as a human-directed process of selective breeding of purebred horses of a given breed,” he said.

“We are truly honoured to take step ahead of time and lead the way in this revolutionary industry which drew the attention  of all horse breeders from Europe and other countries.

“The move is intended to promote the Arabian horse races through the building of a solid base by HH  Sheikh Mansoor, and his move has paid off and proved great success,” he added.
