“We are so proud of the win by Sand On Fire in the Grade II stake race, The Yellow Rose, run at Sam Houston Race Park on February 23rd,” said Jane Teutsch. “Sandy weaved in and out of horses from last to first.”
The Race:
Six fillies went to the post in the $30,000 Grade 2 Texas Yellow Rose for 4 yr olds. TTT Tiny Tina by Mano Y Mano set the pace but gave way to Delishess on the turn.
Delishess, a ship-in from Delaware Park sired by Dahess, pulled away down the stretch but was caught in late stretch by hard driving Sand On Fire. Sand On Fire won by 1 ¼ in the time of 1:35.02.
Jockey Dakota Wood guided the 4-year-old daughter of Burning Sand to victory, covering seven furlongs in 1:35.02. Owned and bred by Jane Teutsch of Larkspur, Colorado, Sand on Fire has now won three of her seven lifetime starts.
“I rode this filly a couple of times and won the stake with her at Retama,” said Wood. “She’s one of those that you let her do her thing, and she’ll get the job done.”
“We’re really proud of her, said owner Ray Teutsch. “This was her distance and she can compete with the best. We’re very thankful that she proved herself tonight.”
This was the 2nd out of 2013 for Sand On Fire who is trained by Elizabeth Brand.
