Tonight H.H.Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan demonstrated not only his skills as an owner but also as a powerful breeder when the Arabian Blood lines he has fostered for the last 18 years proved successful in the two major races in tonight’s H.H The President’s Cup (Group 1) Arabian Horse Racing Meeting at Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club.

Al Ruwais (Group 3)1000 M

In the second feature race, the Al Ruwais (Group 3), H.H. Sheik Mansour’s 5 y o Chestnut horse, Thakif (Mahabb(AE)x Sheena(FR)) won the race with his stable mate Rakha (FR) (Mahabb(AE) x Shamayl (FR)), also 5 years, a close second.

The sire of both of these horses, Mahabb(AE) was bred in the UAE by His Highness in his Al Wathba Stud in Abu Dhabi in 2001. The sire of Mahabb, Tahar de Candelon(FR) was raced by His Highness in the UAE in the mid nineties – winning, amongst other UAE races, the Maktoum Challenge series for Pure Bred Arabians. The dam of Mahabb was the fantastic American bred mare Joyzell(USA) (Maha), a champion sprinter  that had 29 wins from 29 starts including 25 wins from 25 starts for H.H  Sheikh Mansour in the UAE. Thakif’s dam, Sheena(FR), was also successfully campaigned in the UAE by His Highness for H.H. The President’s Stables in the mid 90’s before being retired for breeding to Wathba Stud Farm in France. Both Thakif and Rakha were trained for His Highness Sheikh Mansour by successful Emirati trainer, Majid Al Jahouri.
