December 15, 2012, Bahrain ~ The Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was the winner of the first ever CISM World Military Endurance Championship (WMEC) held at the Bahrain International Endurance Village in Sakhir on Saturday. Giving him the honors were His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Majesty King Hamad bin Eissa Al Khalifa of Bahrain. The 120 km ride had five stages of 30kms, 30kms, 25 kms, 20kms and the fifth 15 kms.
Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa led the Bahrain team of Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Shaikh Salman bin Saqer Al Khalifa, Abdulrahman Al Zayed, Abdulrahman Saad and Yaqoub Al Hammadi.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai received the International Council for Military Sports (CISM) Sash for his pioneering role in the progress of military sports and winning the two gold medallions of the individual and team categories in the 2012 FEI World Endurance Championship in London earlier this year.
The event was held on Bahrain’s National Day and the celebration of His Majesty King Hamad’s Accession Day.
Over 100 competitors came from 19 countries including UK, Italy, Spain, Estonia, Azerbaijan, Uruguay, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Palestine Jordan, Yemen, Morocco and Bahrain.
