 Background

The French Arabian race sire, Virgule Al Maury, was imported into the United States in 1995, after competing successfully for 3 seasons in the UK and UAE. Virgule is a son of Kesberoy, the noted French sire, and out of the Baroud III daughter, Valse Du Cassou, whose 2nd dam is the important French foundation mare, Nevada II.

Retiring with a record of  6 wins, 2 seconds, and 5 thirds with 4 stakes placings out of 16 starts, Virgule was imported into the U.S. to stand at public stud, with emphasis on breeding him to U.S. mares noted for their speed. Today, his daughters are making a mark as top producers of both sprinters and distance runners.

Through December of 2011 Virgule Al Maury has sired 15 foal crops with 247 of racing age; 163 are race starters. Of those starters, 117 (72%) are winners, 26 are stakes winners, and 24 are stakes placed. Together, his get have amassed more than $3,480,000 USD in earnings.

Carrying his name overseas is his son, VELTE, California Derby winner,  exported to Dubai to become one of the top UAE sprinters of all time. A true example of his incredible legacy is his outstanding daughter, ANVIRLIK (8/91(14-23-18)5-15, $117,017), who made history by being the longest running female with the most starts of any female in the USA, and retired sound in 2011 to begin her next career as a broodmare. 

With his contribution of French bloodlines into U.S. Arabian racing programs in the USA, Virgule Al Maury established his legacy for the French influence on US Arabian racing bloodlines.

He is recognized as the most influential French sire in the history of modern U.S. Arabian racing.
