Warrawee Naaziq, ridden to a fine win by Robert Kirkpatrick, took the top prize for the first ever Wathba Stud Farm Cup at Mansfield Racetrack in Victoria over the weekend.
The winner is owned and trained by Kim Noble. Majelica finished second and Major finished third in the 1200-metre race.
All eight runners were away well. The early leader was Wantkey Kaliph with Major and Blakes Heaven Bombora running well. In the final 100 metres Warrawee Naaziq moved up on the outside to take the lead. Magelica then made a run from the back of the field along the rail and took a narrow lead from Major who had also made his run. Warrawee Naaziq (Trystan Bobbi Dazzlah x Warrawee Naadiq) proved too strong on the line and took the race from the fast finishing mare, Magelica with Major running a close third. This was the first race for Magelica and she will be a lot harder to beat in her next run.
