February 10, 2013, Abu Dhabi – Copy ~ It was the 11th race of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival’s Wathba Stud Farm Cup race series run on Sunday and a full field of 16 runners entered the seven furlong contest.
After Ernst Oertel’s four-race winning streak on Sunday it was the turn of trainer Fakhruddin Nizamuddin to celebrate his first win since the 2008-09 season. Nizamuddin whose best this season was a 4th place finish with RS Fancy dancer in the Wathba Stud Farm Cup race on December 9, 2012, finally struck when Aryaf (Bibi De Carrere (FR) – Aicha d’Espiens by (FR) by Cheri Bibi) under Ted Durcan came up with a blistering late run to win from Samir Hawa’s Girl Power.
Girl Power( Calin Du Loup (FR) – Dixies Chick (US) by Burning Sand) under Xavier Ziani looked heading for a win on the home stretch but Durcan got the 4-year-old Bibi De Carrere filly to produce a fantastic run and carry away Dh 30,000 for the win.
“I am so happy with this win. I thank HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs for this Wathba Stud farm Cup race series which does help boost private owners to taste success,” Nizamuddin said.
Ms Lara Sawaya, Director of HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival and Head of Ladies Racing at IFAHR said the Festival was heading for a busy year ahead.
“On February 17 we will be hosting a unique race on the ice at St Moritz in Switzerland for the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup. It is a Listed race for Purebred Arabians over 1800 metres and we already have six confirmed runners,” Ms Sawaya said.
“In organising the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority has the preservation of the UAE’s cultural heritage and traditions as its driving principal,” Mr. Mubarak Hamad Al Muhairi, Director General, Abu Dhabi Tourism& Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) said in a message.
“Equestrianism in general, and Purebred Arabian racing in particular, has been a part of the life and spirit of every Emirati and by promoting this sport globally the Festival seeks to enhance the status of Arabian racing,” he added.
“Under the directives and support of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and Head of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood the Festival has achieved tremendous success and we intend to continue and build on this,” Al Muhairi said.
