June 7, 2012, Berlin ~ The third edition of the World Arabian Horse Racing Conference got underway in the German capital, Berlin, on Thursday morning. The three-day event is held under the directives of HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs within the umbrella of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival.
The HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival is organized by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, Emirates Racing Association (ERA) and co-ordinated by Abu Dhabi Sports Council in association with Emirates Arabian Horse Society and IFAHR, supported by General Authority for Youth and Sports and Fegentri with Emirates airlines as the official carrier and sponsored by Invest AD, Al Rashid Investment, Areej Al Ameerat, Mauzan, Al Awani General Enterprises, Kabale, the UAE’s General Women’s Union, the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition 2012, Wathba Stud Farm and Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club.
The opening ceremony was attended by HE Mohammed Ahmed Al Mahmoud, UAE ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, Sheikha Najla Al Qassimi, UAE ambassador to Sweden, HE Asim Mirza, UAE ambassador to Poland, Abdul Mohsen Al Dosary, assistant undersecretary of the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare, Lara Sawaya, director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival and director of Women Racing at IFAHR, Abdulla Al Qubaisi, director of Communications at the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, Sami Al Boueinen, Chairman of IFAHR and a number of leading horse owners, breeders and experts from UAE, Europe and USA.
The UAE ambassador paid tribute to late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan for his initiative to preserve and promote the Arabian horse which is part of the UAE and Arabs history, culture and identity.
“We hope to succeed in our mission which is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs. The Arabian horse is part of the Arab civilization and equine sport which is a friendship between man and a horse just like the friendship which connects people and nations with each other,” he said.
Thereafter, Sami Al Boueinin thanked HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed for his great initiative. Abdulla Al Qubaisi, spoke on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, Mohammed Al Adhab delivered his speech on behalf of the ERA and Gerhard Schoningh, owner of the Hoppegarten Racecourse.
